In the weeks leading into the 2018 NFL Draft, there is a growing notion that the team will take a quarterback with the first overall selection. There is no clarity on which player it will be at the top overall spot, but the franchise is honed in on bringing a promising talent aboard at the position.

This has left some doubt in terms of Tyrod Taylor's status as the starter for this upcoming season. With that in mind, head coach Hue Jackson has once reaffirmed that Taylor will be under center for the Browns in 2018 while the rookie will take backup duties, according to Kyle Kelly of the Browns Wire.

Jackson had previously stated that Taylor would be the unquestioned starter for next season, but as the draft nearer it has put him int he position of having to reaffirm that notion once again. The addition of the 28-year-old should have been quite clear that was the plan from the get-go regardless if the Browns drafted another young quarterback.

Although Taylor hasn't shown that he can be a franchise quarterback, he has proven to be a viable starter in the league. His ability to be a dual threat with both his legs and arms makes him a difficult matchup for any opposing team. This skillset could be maximized by the talent around him in Cleveland with some strong young options at wide receiver with Jarvis Landry, Josh Gordon, and Corey Coleman.

The team has also acquired a proven running back in Carlos Hyde that could effectively carry the running game to balance out the offense. Meanwhile, this decision to roll with Taylor alleviates any additional pressure on the incoming rookie to step in and be the starter right away. It could quickly turn into a situation where the team could win in 2018 while having their quarterback of the future on the roster.
