After a 2-5-1 start to the 2018 NFL season, the Cleveland Browns decided that things have to change – at the expense of the jobs of head coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley. Both were fired by the team on Monday.

Some would say that Jackson should have been fired a long time ago, especially after the Browns finished with a humiliating 0-16 record in 2017. As for Haley, he was on the verge of getting sacked way back in September but managed to prolong his stint in Cleveland thanks to an assist from Jackson, according to Michael Silver of ESPN while breaking down the Browns’ latest front office moves.

There was talk a few years back organizationally of Todd Haley being fired back in late September, Hue Jackson actually stepped in and helped saved Todd Haley from that fate. But now obviously with the 2-5-1 at the halfway point, he was not able to overcome that.”

The stick that broke the camel’s back for the jobs of Jackson and Haley was the Browns’ 33-18 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers at Heinz Field – Cleveland’s third in a row.

Both Jackson and Haley are offense-first coaching figures, as both have experience as offensive coordinators, but the Browns’ futility on offense during their tenure was so glaring, the team felt it needed to part ways with the duo.

So far this season, the Browns are averaging just 21.1 points and 342.2 total yards per game despite the fact that Cleveland’s defense is consistently giving its counterparts plenty of extra time to put points on the board. The Browns are tops in the league in turnover margin with a plus-minus of +11 through the first eight weeks of the season.
