Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson been adamant about the team taking its time with developing quarterback Baker Mayfield. Meanwhile, the New York Jets have already gotten off to a promising start with quarterback Sam Darnold at the helm.

This has raised questions as to whether or not the Browns have started to consider doing the same. However, according to Tom Withers of the Associated Press, Jackson said Darnold's emergence will have no impact on Mayfield's status:

Jackson said Jets handling of Sam Darnold doesn't change his plans with Baker Mayfield.

Jackson's comments should come as no surprise. He made it clear in the offseason that quarterback Tyrod Taylor would be the starter going into the 2018 NFL season. It would not make much sense for Cleveland to make its decisions based off of what other teams do after just one game.

Jackson is still on the hot seat after failing to win his second game as head coach. That said, he could very well be out of a job this season if the Browns do not start to show signs of immediate improvement. It is clear that Jackson feels Taylor gives them the best chance of winning despite his shaky performance in Week 1.

Regardless, there is still the matter of when Cleveland plans on transitioning to Mayfield. After all, they did choose him to be their franchise quarterback over Darnold. However, the latter has already stepped into his designated role while Mayfield watches from the sidelines. Unless the Browns can legitimately compete for a playoff spot, then it is very likely the rookie starts sooner rather than later.
