Jadeveon Clowney reveals why he signed with Browns

Jadeveon Clowney Browns

The Cleveland Browns made a splash in free agency as they just signed Jadeveon Clowney. Pairing him up alongside Myles Garrett, the Browns are shaping up to have one of the best defenses in the league next year.

We finally received details of Clowney’s deal, thanks to Ian Rapoport sending a comprehensive breakdown on Clowney’s contract through Twitter. After incentives, signing bonus, and everything else, Clowney agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $10 million.

A year ago, the Cleveland Browns were already in on the Jadeveon Clowney race. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions, teams weren’t able to meet with the star pass rusher. He eventually signed with the Tennessee Titans, where he hardly proved his worth, to say the least.

Clowney shared his reason as to why he signed with the Cleveland Browns, claiming he wants to join a winner, per Ian Rapoport.

It’s unclear as to how Clowney can make that claim, considering he was just on a playoff-caliber team a season ago. In fact, Tennessee played half of the year without him, proving they didn’t need him in the lineup to succeed. Either way, Clowney has signed a deal with the Cleveland Browns and both sides seem happy.

It’ll be interesting to see if Clowney can bounce back from a treacherous season where he only totaled 19 tackles and zero sacks. Having Myles Garrett in the lineup with him should take some pressure off, but only time will tell if it was a good investment by the Browns or not. Look for Cleveland to continue stacking their roster, as the NFL draft kicks off on April 29th.
