With all their assets, the Cleveland Browns are poised to finally acquire their franchise quarterback. Not only do they have a bevy of quality picks, but their $118 million in cap space allows them to put some pretty lucrative offers on the table.

As a result, the Browns have appeared as potential suitors to acquire the services of quarterback Kirk Cousins. However, left tackle Joe Thomas admitted during the ThomaHawk Show Podcast that he is not optimistic about his team's chances:

“I think those chances are out the window, to be totally honest with you,” Thomas said. “It doesn't seem like the Browns are going to land Kirk Cousins.”

Thomas doubled down by suggesting a team like the Denver Broncos will be the ones to sign Cousins.

“I think Kirk is looking for a team like Denver that has a really good defense that in his opinion is like a quarterback away,” Thomas said.

Although the prospect of signing Cousins had raised hope for Browns' fans, it seems Thomas is being rational about the situation. Needless to say, there is plenty of truth to his comments.

Cousins is likely going to become the highest-paid player in NFL history, regardless of where he goes at this point. That said, it makes more sense to join a team like Denver that is one quarterback away from championship contention while making upwards of $30 million per year.

The only way Cleveland competes with these teams is if they were to offer more than $35 million a year. However, that would put the Browns in a precarious situation with the lack of talent currently on the team. Furthermore, they have the benefit of drafting whichever quarterback prospect they want with the first and fourth overall picks in the 2018 NFL Draft.
