The Cleveland Browns' busy offseason shopping spree continued with the signing of former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Mychal Kendricks. However, there has been plenty of speculation as to where he fits in Cleveland's new-look defense.

Fortunately, head coach Hue Jackson already has an idea on Kendricks' role for this season. According to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, Jackson says the new Brown will start out as a middle linebacker:

“We’ll start him out in the middle,” Browns coach Hue Jackson said. “As you know, [defensive coordinator] Gregg [Williams] plays a lot of different packages so he’ll be a little bit at every place. He’s very bright. He can learn it all. When he walks out there, he’ll start in the middle.”

Kendricks has since solidified the notion that he is willing to play wherever the coaching staff wants him too.

“I'm here to do whatever's asked of me, and I'm going to do it to the best of my ability,” he said. “And as long as I'm on that field, I'm going to make some stuff happen. I promise.”

It is an interesting plan, to say the least. Although Kendricks has shown that he is versatile enough to play all three linebacker positions, he has spent most of his time on the outside. Furthermore, the team already has a solid option at Mike in linebacker Joe Schobert, who was selected as a Pro Bowl alternate in January.

Kendricks played an integral role in Philadelphia's spectacular Super Bowl run last year. Not only does he bring a championship mentality to the Browns but his addition also helps stabilize the team's linebacker corps.

That said, it still may be a bit of a transition for Kendricks going to Mike full-time. He racked up 459 tackles and 14.0 sacks during his tenure with the Eagles. His move to the middle will likely put a damper on his pass-rushing numbers this season. Fortunately, it appears Kendricks is up to the task.
