The New York Giants rocked the NFL landscape earlier this offseason when they traded wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns, a trade that caught many—including Beckham—by surprise.

Now that Beckham has had several months to digest the move, he says he felt more disrespected by the Giants than anything else:

“My initial reaction was not disappointment … I felt disrespected,” Beckham told GQ. “Like, after everything I've done for them. This is me being honest.”

Beckham went on to say that he was the main reason people even cared about the Giants over the last several years:

“I felt disrespected, because I felt like I was a main reason at keeping that brand alive,” he said. “They were getting prime-time games, still, as a 5-and-11 team. Why? Because people want to see the show. You want to see me play. That's just real rap. I'm not sitting here like, “It's because of me.” But let's just be real. That's why we're still getting prime-time games. I felt disrespected they weren't even man enough to even sit me down to my face and tell me what's going on.”

To be fair, the Giants being a New York ballclub with a pretty rich history is also a pretty big reason why they tend to get prime-time games; it's not because of any one particular player.

But it's obvious that Beckham feels his love for New York wasn't reciprocated by the Giants, and now, he will get to play for a young and upcoming Browns team that could very well be a contender this year.
