Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield didn't have the best performance on Sunday against the Houston Texans, but after the game, Tyrann Mathieu was still nothing but praise for the young quarterback.

During the first half, he threw completed eight passes total, five to the Browns, and three to the Texans. In the second half, he was much better completing 25 of his 30 passes for 351 yards and a touchdown. Unforutanltly for the Browns by that point it was too little too late.

“That’s why the kid is going to be really special, you know?’’ Said safety Tyran Mathieu via cleveland.com. “Fitting balls into tight holes. I’m just grateful that we made more plays today.’’

J.J Watt also was impressed with how Mayfield bounced back in the second half and thought that type of performance could help him later on.

“Obviously, we're lucky,’’ said Watt after Mayfield got hot in second half. “You've got to give him credit for that. He bounced back. As a rookie quarterback, it probably would've been easy to kind of go into a hole there, but he fought through it and worked his way through it.’’

After the game, Mayfield was disappointed with his first-half performance but thinks overall the team played well and he is encouraged by the performance.

“If I take care of the ball, this game is very close,’’ said Mayfield. “We have a great team to where we’re very close. We just lost to a team that’s won their ninth game in a row. For us to be talking about just the little things that we were off on against a team like that, that’s a positive way to look at it.’’
