Buccaneers HC Bruce Arians drops truth bomb on Patriots after outsmarting Bill Belichick

Bruce Arians is wary of the Miami Dolphins’ defense, which his Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be taking on this coming Sunday at home. The Bucs are fresh off a testy 19-17 road win in Foxborough over Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots in Week 4, and Arians had some interesting assessments of the Dolphins’ stop unit, particularly its secondary, compared to the Pats’.

Via Jon Ledyard of Pewter Report:

“It’s very similar,” head coach Bruce Arians said. “I think this secondary is a lot better than the one we just played. They spent a lot of money in the secondary. I think Coach [Brian] Flores has done a heck of job with that defense and it’s a very similar defense. We have to play a hell of a lot better inside the 30-yard line than we did last week, and then we’ll be fine.”

Nevertheless, the Patriots still managed to hold Brady to only 269 passing yards and zero touchdowns. They were not able to pick him off, but Brady finished with just a 55.4 QB rating and 70.8 passer rating. Those are the Buccaneers QB’s worst marks in a game so far this season.

Despite Arians’ praises for the Dolphins’ secondary, Miami is still just 17th in the NFL with 251.5 passing yards allowed per game after four weeks of football. Miami is also only 12th in Football Outsiders’ pass DVOA (1.4%), while the Patriots are second overall (13.6%).
