Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians has nothing but love and admiration for safety Ali Marpet, who recently made the decision to retire from the NFL.

On Sunday, Marpet announced his retirement from the game on Instagram. While he did not elaborate on the reason he is calling it a career, he showed his appreciation for the Buccaneers franchise and the Tampa Bay community. He also vowed to serve the community in the coming years, albeit in a different capacity and away from the football field.

“After seven formidable years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, I’ve come to the decision to retire from the game that has given me so much. This organization and the people surrounding it have helped not only fulfill a dream, but also helped build me into the person I am today. I’ve made Tampa Bay my home and I look forward to serving this community in the coming years. To the coaches and teammates, family and friends, an Instagram post simply can’t express the profound impact you’ve had on me. I’m eternally grateful. Thank you Tampa Bay,” Marpet wrote on Instagram.

Of course Ali Marpet is a big loss for the Buccaneers, especially after a season that saw the 28-year-old make his first Pro Bowl. Despite the shocking turn of events, however, Bruce Arians showed his appreciation for the NFL veteran and highlighted how happy he is that they are able to send him out as a Super Bowl champion.

Marpet was a key cog for the Buccaneers in their 202o season and win in Super Bowl LV. While they failed to defend their title in the past campaign, the star safety still made a huge impact as the team topped the NFC South.

“I can't say enough about what Ali has meant to our team over the three seasons since my arrival. He has been the consummate professional and has been a rock for us in the interior of our offensive line. We will miss him on the field and in the locker room, but I am happy that he gets to go out as a Super Bowl champion and Pro Bowler,” Arians said in a team statement.

“It is never easy saying goodbye to a player who has meant so much to our success, but I support and respect his decision and wish him a great life after football.”

Marpet's retirement came on the heels of Tom Brady's retirement weeks ago. With that said, the Buccaneers have a lot of players they need to replace in a bid to keep themselves in contention for the Super Bowl.
