After the Tampa Bay Buccaneers played last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Bruce Arians spoke about the possibility of adding players in their secondary. As a result, Tampa Bay is expressing interest in safety Marcus Gilchrist, per Ian Rapoport.

According to Rapoport, the Buccaneers hosted Gilchrist for a visit and workout on Monday. At this moment, there is no deal that has been made between the two sides.

The Buccaneers need depth at the safety position with Justin Evans, Orion Stewart, Mike Edwards, and D'Cota Dixon all sidelined with injuries. Among them, Stewart and Dixon have already been placed on injured reserve.

Additionally, Evans is on the physically unable to perform list due to a heel injury. Evans has started at strong safety for Tampa Bay the past two seasons. Thus, with all of the injuries, the Buccaneers have their eyes on free agents to help withstand the injuries.

At 30 years old, Gilchrist is entering his ninth season in the NFL in 2019. Gilchrist began his career with the then-San Diego Chargers after being picked in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft. The veteran safety spent four seasons with the Chargers, claiming five interceptions and 193 solo tackles.

Over the past few seasons, Gilchrist has spent time with the New York Jets, Houston Texans, and most recently, the Oakland Raiders in 2018. Now, Gilchrist could be joining his former head coach, Todd Bowles, who was his head coach in New York from 2015-2016 and is now the defensive coordinator in Tampa.
