Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo latest star called out by Charles Barkley, TNT crew
Only a day after Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant blasted Charles Barkley and Shaquille O’Neal for their takes on current players, the Hall of Fame forward opened fire on Giannis Antetokounmpo for having failed to lead the Milwaukee Bucks to success in the postseason.
“He’s got a long way to go as a player. You are playing against 2 good teams and 5 bad teams so your numbers average out. They got beaten 2 years in a row, exactly the same way. We were talking about the ‘Toronto wall’ two years ago, then they get beat by the ‘Toronto wall’ last year. You notice when they play games, their half-court offense is not good … I would love to see Giannis post-up more.”
While Barkley might be correct in his estimation regarding the Bucks superstar’s efforts in the playoffs, he might be underestimating the degree to which the team and Antetokounmpo have attempted to counter the “walls” opponents have thrown around the interior.
As ESPN’s Zach Lowe recently pointed out on his podcast, the Greek Freak has begun setting a career-high in ball screens through the early going this season, with the hope that it would create easier roll opportunities into the lane during half-court sets.
However, considering that the Bucks have enjoyed tremendous success in the regular season the past two years, it is likely that Barkley and the rest of the TNT crew will not be satisfied until Giannis and co. perform well in the playoffs.
