The Milwaukee Bucks have officially been ousted in the playoffs following Tuesday's Game 5 loss to the Miami Heat. After the game, an injured Giannis Antetokounmpo was asked about his plans for the offseason and his future in Cream City after another playoff failure.
Interestingly, the soon-to-be back-to-back MVP was quick to reaffirm his commitment to the Bucks.
When asked if he would be asking for a trade in the offseason following another disappointing campaign for Milwaukee, Giannis was adamant that he has no intention of doing so:
“It’s not happening. That’s not happening,” Giannis Antetokounmpo said, via Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports.
“Some see a wall and go in [another direction]. I plow through it. We just have to get better as a team, individually and get right back at it next season.”
Giannis' commitment is certainly reassuring for the Bucks faithful, and it is pretty much the only thing they want to know following a bitter end to their season.
The Greek Freak then went on to say that he remains steadfast in his desire to win a title with the Bucks:
“If winning a championship was easy, everyone would have one,” Antetokounmpo said. “We lost. Everyone saw that we lost. It’s disappointing, but what are we going to do? We’re going to keep working. I’ve got confidence in my teammates.”
Antetokounmpo was unable to take the floor in Game 5 due to an ankle injury. Clearly, his team missed the services of the reigning MVP, as they were unable to extend the series for another game.
Giannis will be a free agent at the end of the 2020-21 season, which puts him and the Bucks in a very interesting position this offseason. Milwaukee is expected to offer him a max extension, but whether or not he puts pen to paper is a totally different matter.
