Giannis Antetokounmpo effectively shut down all the talks of him leaving Cream City when he signed his supermax extension with the Milwaukee Bucks last December. Apparently, though, fans have Jrue Holiday to thank for that.

According to Bucks co-owner Marc Lasry, Holiday made a huge impact on Antetokounmpo right off the bat, showing the Greek Freak how good he is and how he can help the franchise. Lasry believes it's a major factor in Giannis' decision to re-sign with the team even after years of playoff disappointments.

“You know, I remember the first practice and Jrue is covering Giannis. And same thing — Giannis knew Jrue by reputation. After practice that day, Jon [Bucks GM] says to me, ‘Yeah, Giannis now knows how good he is. (Holiday’s) covering him. He’s good.’ It was actually great. It was. And I think 100 percent it was a huge factor in Giannis re-signing because he saw what we were willing to do,” Lasry told The Athletic.

Milwaukee traded for Jrue Holiday in the offseason of 2020, sending Eric Bledsoe, George Hill and significant draft compensation to the New Orleans Pelicans in the process.

While some might think they overpaid for the defense-first guard, the said move paid off big time eight months later. Holiday played a crucial role in the Bucks' championship run in the 2021 playoffs. He was a key player in stopping Chris Paul and the Phoenix Suns, allowing Milwaukee to finish the series 4-2.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is locked with the Bucks for the long-term, and with Jrue beside him, the two are set to wreak havoc in the NBA.
