The Milwaukee Bucks are looking to upgrade their roster and are reportedly interested in Charlotte Hornets shooting guard Malik Monk.

According to Gery Woelfel of Woelfel Press Box:

“..the Bucks have explored obtaining a shooting guard. League sources said the Bucks had contacted the Hornets about rookie Malik Monk, the 11th overall pick in last June’s draft.”

The Hornets nabbed Monk as their first-round pick last year to shore up their shooting guard position for years to come. But without enough playing time (13.0 minutes per game this year), Monk hasn’t progressed enough for him to showcase his talent in Charlotte.

Woelfel adds:

“..there is apparently a split in the Hornets’ hierarchy as to whether they should keep Monk or move him. Monk has struggled for much of the season, averaging a pedestrian 5.2 points on just 33 percent shooting.”

Monk’s best game for the Hornets was early in the season when he scored 25 points against, ironically, the Bucks. The young but talented University of Kentucky alum scored 18 points in the fourth quarter in a 126-121 win.

Should the Bucks acquire Monk, veteran shooting guard Jason Terry would be a good mentor for the 6-foot-3 rookie. Just like Monk, Terry is an undersized shooting guard at 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds. The Bucks could use a shooter of Monk’s caliber if he develops a more polished game.

On December 17, 2016, Monk shattered Kentucky’s freshman scoring record when he exploded for 47 points, including the game-winner, in a game over the University of North Carolina.

So far, Monk has averaged measly numbers of 5.2 points and 1.3 assists per game for the Hornets.
