With less than one month remaining until the start of this season's playoffs, several teams around the league are keeping a close eye on which coaches might become available. One such team is the Milwaukee Bucks, who are said to be interested in several prospects, including Jeff Van Gundy and Kevin McHale.

In his recent article for The New York Times, Marc Stein notes that the Bucks, who are currently led by head coach Joe Prunty after Jason Kidd's dismissal earlier this season, will be looking to “make a splash.”

There’s a belief out there that the Bucks’ ownership, heading into a new building next season, wants to make the biggest splash it can manage. It’s a greater given that there will be no shortage of external interest in the job, whatever holes this roster sports, thanks to the presence of the superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Current TV analysts Jeff Van Gundy and Kevin McHale, league sources say, are among the marquee names that can already be found on the Bucks’ list of candidates. The former New Orleans coach Monty Williams and Fizdale have also been mentioned as likely candidates — and word is that even former Louisville coach Rick Pitino could get an exploratory look here.

The Bucks are currently the eighth-seeded team in the Eastern Conference standings with a 37-33 overall record — one-half game back from the seventh-seeded Miami Heat and six games ahead of the ninth-seeded Detroit Pistons.

Most hoops fans have seen (and heard) Van Gundy and McHale during various game broadcasts. They're both great analysts, but they're also excellent coaches.

Van Gundy, now 56 years of age, has served as a coach in some capacity since 1985 (high school, college and NBA). In his 748 NBA games coached, the Hemet, California native racked up 430 wins.

McHale, 60, is best known for his legendary stint with the Boston Celtics (1980-93), where he won three championships. However, McHale is also an accomplished coach. The seven-time All-Star has coached in 417 NBA games, recording 232 wins.

Whether or not the Bucks will indeed offer Van Gundy or McHale a spot on their coaching staff remains to be seen, but it certainly sounds like they're interested.
