Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston just finished his third season in the NFL and still has much to learn about the game. After playing in 32 out of 32 games in his first two years, he missed the first three games of his career last season due to a right shoulder injury.

As part of his learning process, Bucs head coach Dirk Koetter says Winston has sought the advice of veteran quarterbacks – including legendary iron man Brett Favre – on how to play through the various injuries that come over the course of a long season.

“I think he did some research with some veteran quarterbacks on how to get through those injuries, and I know he's doing a great job of taking care of his body,” Koetter said per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. “These guys come into the league and they've just always been better than everybody, and now they're playing against all elite players. I mean, Jameis has always been a winner and we haven't won. I know Jameis will always do whatever it takes to help our team win.”

It speaks to Winston’s desire to win that he’s actually going the extra mile in order to keep doing his job well even through setbacks like injuries. Injuries are an inescapable part of the game and players must be able to deal with those whenever they come.

Hopefully for the Bucs, Winston can stay relatively healthy next season and can return to the form he showed in his first couple of seasons. But if he does get nicked up again, at least he’ll be better equipped to deal with his physical ailments after consulting with some of his peers.
