After consistently being included in a lot of trade chatter for months now, Jimmy Butler will now be headed to his new home.
It has been reported that the Chicago Bulls have already agreed in principle to move the three-time All-Star to the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he will be reunited with his former head coach, Tom Thibodeau. Chicago will receive Kris Dunn, Zach LaVine and this year's number seven pick in return.
After months of speculations and being rumored to be on the move to the Boston Celtics, the Wolves only recently emerged as a possible destination for him. They have now pulled it off while being under the radar, and it also goes to show Butler's willingness to be play for Thibodeau again.
The 27-year-old Marquette product will now have the chance to be the leader of a young and promising team that features Karl-Anthony Towns, Andrew Wiggins and Ricky Rubio. With his playoff experience, it might just be what the Timberwolves need in order to make a postseason appearance next season.
Despite next season only the eighth of his career, he will now be one of the most tenured players in his new team. It can be expected that Thibodeau will mold him into a leader on and off the court which his teammates can look up and rely on in different situations. This is indeed exciting times for the Minnesota faithful, and will be interesting to see if the trade will pay dividends for them immediately.
