In what was supposed to be a bounce-back year for Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Derrick Rose it has since taken an unfortunate turn with the former MVP taking an excused leave of absence from the team. There are even reports that Rose could be considering retirement after suffering an ankle injury earlier this month.

While Rose's future in the NBA remains uncertain at the moment, Chicago Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg is hoping nothing but the best for his former player, according to Vincent Goodwill of NBC Sports Chicago

“You hope everything's okay, with he and his family, that's my immediate reaction…I enjoyed that time with him, enjoyed coaching him. He was a wonderful kid. You hope everything is okay.”

Hoiberg was part of the regime change for the Bulls prior to the 2015-16 NBA season. It was also the last season Rose was in his hometown of Chicago before being traded to the New York Knicks.

Despite a solid year with the disastrous Knicks, Rose was hoping to compete for a championship while possibly revitalizing his career at the same time. As a result, he signed a one-year deal for the veteran's minimum with Cleveland. However, it seems Rose's latest injury has finally taken its toll on what was a promising career.
