After the Chicago Bulls were blasted by critics for signing DeRozan to a three-year $81.9 million contract in the offseason, the high-scoring guard has played well enough to keep his team in contention for the top seed in the East. In the process, he also earned a starting spot at the All-Star Game.

DeRozan read it all. He's no stranger to being doubted. And he's keeping receipts. As it turns out, he shares the same mindset with fellow Bulls star Zach LaVine.

Via Abe Schwadron of SLAM Magazine:

“Fake experts. Obviously, you hear it all, about how it’s not going to work, this and that. Just every negative. As competitors, you hear all that. That was one of the first conversations we had. I told him, It’s gon’ work. And he said the same thing to me.”

DeRozan had his fair share of heartbreaks in Toronto. He didn't enjoy as much success in San Antonio. Fortunately for the Bulls star, the air is different in Chicago.

DeMar DeRozan and Zach LaVine have turned the Bulls into an Eastern Conference powerhouse. For his part, DeRozan is enjoying a breakout season, averaging 26.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game. He's also shooting a career-high 35% on 3-pointers.

The Bulls have been able to navigate through missed games due to injuries and COVID-19 protocols. At this point, the critics' section is full of crickets. No doubt, DeMar DeRozan owns one of the best stories this season.
