Derrick Rose says he didn't watch Chicago Bulls legend Michael Jordan play while growing up in Chicago because he was always outside working on his game.

Rose also reveals he wasn't able to celebrate the Bulls championships because he was too young to go outside at night. Rose grew up in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Chicago — Englewood.

“At that time, I wasn't 6-6, our games wasn't similar, so I really didn't like look up to him like that because I was always outside just working on my game and it ended up paying off for me,” Rose told Dan Patrick on the Dan Patrick Show.

“I knew that we were winning championships, but I wasn't able to celebrate that because I was too young to go outside to celebrate with the people that was running on the streets after a championship. So, they'll win a championship, my brothers are outside, and I have to sit in the house and look from the window and see everybody on the street celebrate.”

Derrick Rose was born in October of 1988. The Bulls won their first championship in 1991 and their last in 1998.

Rose was drafted by his hometown Bulls with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. Like Michael Jordan, Rose was Rookie of the Year and MVP with the Bulls, but D-Rose unfortunately wasn't able to win a title with Chicago because of the knee injuries he suffered.
