Michael Jordan's legacy is a permanent fixture in NBA history. His career with the Chicago Bulls features countless scoring records and six championship wins. Few athletes captivated audiences as powerfully as he did.

Just as Jordan retired, a challenger to the GOAT title emerged. LeBron James has been as excellent as advertised and is still going strong at age 37. The debate over who is the greatest NBA player ever has raged on and will continue until the end of time.

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr chimed in on the debate. He explained his reasoning to The Athletic's Jon Greenberg in favor of his former Chicago teammate.

“I mean, he is the greatest player of all time, so there’s a reason that most people agree on that,” Kerr said. “It goes beyond the shotmaking, it’s the totality of everything. He just had this incredible package of skill and knowledge and experience and it all added up to this aura he was just better than everyone by far.”

“I think the most underrated aspect of Michael’s game was his emotional dominance in the arena every night,” Kerr said. “And I still have not seen that from anybody.”

Kerr, who won three championships with Jordan's Bulls and has coached against James in the NBA Finals for several years, has a strong understanding of both players. He has spent years around some of the game's other great players as a teammate (like Tim Duncan and Scottie Pippen) or as a player they coach (like Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant).

Still, the GOAT debate is subjective and not as clear-cut as anyone on either side makes it out to be. James has his case and Jordan has his. To basketball fans everywhere, though, there is only one GOAT.
