The Chicago Bulls finally traded Nikola Mirotic, and were able to get Omer Asik, Jameer Nelson and Tony Allen in return from the New Orleans Pelicans.
However, there are reports that say Allen will be waived so he can become a free agent. It's also unclear what will happen with Asik.
But as far as Nelson is concerned, the Bulls are actually planning to keep the veteran point guard, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Before signing with the Pelicans, Nelson was last seen with the Denver Nuggets earlier in the season. He played some preseason games, but the Nuggets waived him at the very beginning of the season.
But Nelson is still a serviceable NBA player, even though his days as an elite player as a member of the Orlando Magic are over. He played around 20 minutes for the Pelicans and just over five points per game, per Basketball-Reference.
The Bulls don't really have any veteran point guards on the roster right now. Young guard Kris Dunn could use a player that can guide him into a solid career as an NBA point guard.
Nelson has valuable experience as the main point guard on a championship-contending team. Nelson, as a member of the Magic, played his best basketball in the season that the Magic played the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals in 2009.
But the addition of Nelson to a young team will only help the Bulls players get veteran guidance. The team is young and on the rise and veteran players need to be instilled on a team like that.
