It looks like Caitlyn Jenner is in full support of the world swimming governing body, FINA, adopting new policies regarding transgender athletes to make the competition fair for women.
FINA members recently voted in favor of a new “gender inclusion policy” which basically bans transgender swimmers from competing in women's events if they didn't transition before the age of 12. For those who didn't qualify in the said category and transitioned much later in their lives, the organization is now working to have an “open competition” that will cater to them.
After seeing the new policy, Jenner took to Twitter to show her approval. For those not in the know, the former Olympian who transitioned in 2015 has been campaigning against trans athletes joining women's competition. While she has taken a lot of heat for her stance, she continued to push through it.
“It worked! I took a lot of heat – but what’s fair is fair! If you go through male puberty you should not be able to take medals away from females. Period,” Jenner wrote.
It remains to be seen what FINA plans to do to cater on trans swimmers. While there is currently no transgender athlete competing in elite swimming, perhaps the addition of the open competition will pave the way for more to take on the challenge.
As for Caitlyn Jenner, perhaps she'll be more active in spreading awareness about the policy and her campaign now that a major sports governing body has taken a step to address the issue.
