Chandler Jones has been a staple of the Arizona Cardinal defense since 2016. Now that the team is finally on the upswing, it seemed like a forgone conclusion that the team would sign Jones, an unrestricted free agent, to a new contract.

It doesn't seem that clear-cut, though. Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill said that bringing Jones back may be tricky, implying that “the devil is in the details”. He added that the team would love to have him back next season.

Jones had a simple but clear response to Bidwill's comments. All the 31-year-old edge rusher could do was laugh at what the Cardinals owner had to say.

Arizona, despite snapping a five-year playoff drought last season, is a bit of a mess. Their situation with star quarterback Kyler Murray seems to be resolved now but the team's embarrassing flameout down the stretch of the season still shows that the team has a long way to go. With star wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins coming off of MCL surgery, they have to make some big moves to get back to the postseason.

Jones, a Pro Bowler last season, racked up 26 quarterback hits and 10.5 sacks (a top-15 mark in the league) in 15 games. He is extremely important to the Cardinals, making Bidwill's comment all the more damaging. It's a really bad thing to say to someone who has posted Defensive Player of the Year-caliber seasons for years. Even if they can bring Jones back, it could bring a very uneasy vibe around the team.
