NFL wide receiver Dez Bryant is once again trying to make a return to the NFL, per TMZ. More specifically, he's aiming to play for the Arizona Cardinals with Kyler Murray despite not playing since 2020.

“Kyler [Murray], the coach [Kliff Kingsbury] — I love the swagger over there. I just love the guys, especially DeAndre Hopkins. That's my boy, we [are] real close.”

After missing the full 2018 season due to a torn Achilles, Bryant remained unsigned by an NFL team for the 2019 season. The former Cowboy made a quick stint in Baltimore with the Ravens in 2020 in his first action in nearly three years. He appeared in six games, as he caught six of his 11 targets from Lamar Jackson for 47 yards and two touchdowns.

Bryant's endured an up-and-down NFL career. The three-time Pro Bowler was last at the top of his game in 2014, when he caught 88 passes for 1,320 yards and 16 touchdowns. His decline began shortly after that, as injuries particularly played a role.

The Cardinals would have virtually no reason to be interested in Bryant. After acquiring Marquise “Hollywood” Brown on Thursday, the Cardinals have a loaded receiving corps. Beyond Brown, they have superstar DeAndre Hopkins, veteran A.J. Green, and talented speedster Rondale Moore. While Bryant told TMZ he'd be willing to take on more of a leadership role as a backup, the fit doesn't make sense. The remaining wide receiver or two that the Cardinals will keep will likely be special team guys, including Andy Isabella.

Bryant's persistence is admirable, but a return to the league seems highly unlikely. Perhaps the USFL could be his next step, or even Terrell Owens' league, Fan Controlled Football. A trio of Johnny Manziel, TO, and Bryant would be legendary.
