Arizona Cardinals general manager Steve Keim does not believe some of the team's stars are pulling their weight early in the 2020 season.

Keim said the players earning the most money have yet to produce at a high level thus far, which in part accounts for the team's 2-2 start:

“To be quite frank with you, we’ve got a lot of guys making a lot of money, and that’s how you build the roster — you have to allocate the money in particular spots — and when you see players who are making an exorbitant amount of money, those players have got to be productive,” Keim said, via Darren Urban of the team's website. “In my opinion, our stars have not played like stars.”

Although the Cardinals GM did not call out individual players, he did note the likes of cornerback Patrick Peterson has to “play better.”

Peterson has just one pass defended in Arizona's first five games. He is also giving up more yards per completion and yards per target than in each of the past two seasons, per Pro Football Reference.

Keim also made reference to two of the team's star veterans, including defensive end Chandler Jones and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

Jones has just 1.0 sacks this season after finishing 2019 with 19.0 sacks and a league-high eight forced fumbles. Meanwhile, Fitzgerald has just 14 receptions for 88 yards, with the overwhelming majority of the target share going to DeAndre Hopkins.

Arizona's defense has shown plenty of improvement from last season, and the offense still has high-scoring potential with the explosive Kyler Murray under center.

But Keim wants to see more from the top names on the roster.
