Kliff Kingsbury is experiencing his first injury problem as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals. Haason Reddick will miss some time due to a knee injury.

According to Kingsbury, Haason Reddick will be out a few weeks after knee surgery. Reddick underwent arthroscopic knee surgery and is expected to miss a portion of the preseason.

The Cardinals expect Reddick to return before they kick off their regular season against the Detroit Lions on September 8. Reddick is expected to play a significant role in the middle of the defense in 2019.

In the 2017 NFL Draft, Arizona selected Reddick with the 13th overall pick. During his two seasons with the Cardinals, they've tried moving him around the defense.

With Vance Joseph becoming the new defensive coordinator, the team is expected to move back to a 3-4 defensive scheme. Last season, the Cardinals transitioned to a 4-3 defense under Steve Wilks.

Coming into this season, Arizona planned on lining Reddick up alongside newly signed Jordan Hicks at both inside linebacker positions. Hicks comes from the Philadelphia Eagles, where he won a Super Bowl with the team in 2017.

Hicks also understands what it's like to have to battle through an injury — he has missed 13 games in the past two seasons. Having a veteran like that could be beneficial for Reddick as he works his way back onto the field.

While Reddick is sidelined with his knee injury, Dennis Gardeck has been given the first-team reps in practice. Gardeck was a special-teams standout with the team in 2018.

Getting Haason Reddick back and ready for the team's Week 1 bout against the Lions is the goal.
