The Arizona Cardinals didn't leave Sunday as winners, but Larry Fitzgerald did. The all-time great wide receiver passed Tony Gonzalez in career receptions on a 15-yard catch in the fourth quarter. It was his fifth of the game, and most importantly, 1,326 for his career, giving him second place in all-time catches for a career.

The only person in front of Fitzgerald in that list is Jerry Rice, who finished his career with 1,549. The Hall of Famer was at the game to congratulate the Cardinal, as they hugged and shared words.

Rice congratulated Fitzgerald on Instagram before the game and dubbed him as the  “GOAT.”

Being the humble character he is, Fitzgerald called Rice the “actual GOAT.”

“It's pretty special to get that from the actual GOAT,” said Fitzgerald, via ESPN. “I guess when you are the GOAT, it's easy to call someone else the GOAT, right? He's the best all time.”

Sunday wasn't the first time the two met. Rice had seen Fitzgerald play before, as the Cardinals receiver said. The two previously training together, as Fitzgerald noted, Rice helped him learn the nuances of route-running and continue to talk often.

“Jerry has been very kind to me long before today,” Fitzgerald said. “He's been a wonderful mentor for a long time.”

Perhaps that's why the two consider each other the GOAT. However, Fitzgerald would rather talk about the Cardinals losing streak than congratulate himself over a record.

“I don't mean any disrespect to guys on the all-time list but it's hard to take anything good from losing two in a row at home, three home games out of four, and we don't come out with a win,” Fitzgerald said. “That's pretty depressing, so there's not much to really be happy about.”

The Cardinals and Fitzgerald have the opportunity to be happy next week when they face the 0-3 Bengals in Cincinnati.
