On Wednesday, the Dallas Mavericks lost to the L.A. Clippers at home, in a game where head coach Rick Carlisle got the chance to go up against his former player, Raymond Felton.

Carlisle had nothing but good words for the 32-year-old North Carolina product and revealed that he wanted to have him back this season, but as it turned out, Felton was signed by the Clippers during the summer. The veteran bench boss talked about what he brought to the Mavs last year and how fortunate his new team is to have him in their lineup.

“(Raymond) Felton played great for us and I wish we would have brought him back. The Clippers are very lucky to have him.”

Felton may not have contributed huge numbers to the Mavericks last year but his steady playmaking and veteran smarts made him very valuable to them. He also brought toughness off the bench and helped the team reach the playoffs.

Now, Carlisle and Felton see themselves in opposite poles of the league's team standings.
