Carlos Alcaraz takes on Jannik Sinner at the French Open. Our French Open odds series has our Alcaraz Sinner prediction and pick. Find out how to watch Alcaraz Sinner.

The 2024 French Open heads into the semifinals, but this match feels like the final. It feels like the final because Novak Djokovic is no longer in the tournament on the other side of the draw. A lot of people hoped that Djokovic would face the Alcaraz-Sinner winner, but now that can't happen after it was revealed that Djokovic had a torn meniscus which forced him to withdraw from the tournament after his fourth-round win over Francisco Cerundolo. Casper Ruud got a walkover into the semifinals. Alcaraz or Sinner — whoever wins this match — will be favored over Ruud or Alexander Zverev in Sunday's championship match.

Alcaraz and Sinner appear to be the two biggest and brightest stars in men's tennis for the next 10 years. Djokovic's career is beginning to wind down. Rafael Nadal might retire within the next 12 months if not sooner. It figures to be an Alcaraz and Sinner world. Both men have already won major championships and have shown a level of mental toughness most of their peers lack. Both men entered this tournament with health questions — Alcaraz for his arm and Sinner for his hip — but have answered every question. They look strong, and they look confident. They played a memorable U.S. Open quarterfinal a few years ago which lasted over five hours and ran deep into the night in New York. Most of their matches have been highly entertaining, so the big hope is that the rivalry will continue to develop into something special. This is a milestone moment in the Alcaraz-Sinner rivalry because it is the first time the two have met in a major semifinal. It seems as though it won't be that long before they meet in a major final, especially with Djokovic likely to miss both Wimbledon and the U.S. Open later this season. Djokovic just had surgery to repair his torn meniscus.

Alcaraz is generally viewed as the better clay-court player, but Sinner — as an Italian — is hardly a player who feels out of his element on European clay. The tennis world can't wait for this blockbuster in France.

Why Carlos Alcaraz Could Cover The Spread

The spread of 2.5 games for this match means it is seen as a very close match. Given that reality, you should simply bet on which player you think will cover. It's that simple. Betting on a player to win more games than the other, or betting on the match to last a certain number of games, can get you in trouble. Example: We picked Mirra Andreeva to win over 12.5 games against Jasmine Paolini in the women's semifinals, thinking that Andreeva was highly unlikely to win two sets and win six games per set. However, a different scenario played out: Andreeva got blown out. She went under 12.5 games not because she won two sets with six games per set, but because she lost. That's an example of how betting on total games has its limitations. If you bet on a player to cover the spread, you will almost certainly win if that player wins the match. Alcaraz, on clay, is slightly better than Sinner. Bet accordingly.

Why Jannik Sinner Could Cover The Spread

Sinner has ascended to the World No. 1 ranking for a reason. He's not only good; he's tough. Sinner has become very mentally steady and reliable. It's hard to bet against that in a big match.
