Larry Drew hopes he will remain the head coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Despite the Cavs' horrendous 19-63 win-loss record (the third-worst in the NBA), Drew told Amico Hoops' Colton Jones on April 9 he and his staff have accomplished their goals for the 2018-19 season.

The curtain dropped on the Cleveland Cavaliers' 2018-19 season Tuesday night as they hosted the Charlotte Hornets at Quicken Loans Arena.

Asked if the same was happening for his tenure as coach of the team, Larry Drew said, ‘Let's hope not.'

‘The one thing I was going to do once the season was over, I was going to make sure that I go back and kind of take a mental evaluation of the season, and then just check the boxes,' the 61-year-old Drew said.

‘I can clearly say that I've checked the boxes of what I had to accomplish, and I'm very proud of what I've done and my staff, along with what we've had to endure. I'm comfortable with what took place.

More specifically, Larry Drew said he made sure the young Cavs developed and remained competitive, per Jones.

When I took over, I really looked and just tried to make sure that a few things happened. One, that the guys developed. Collin (Sexton) and Cedi (Osman) and Larry Nance (Jr.) and Big Z (Ante Zizic) and those guys that were going to be playing minutes, I really wanted them to develop, and I think all four of those guys did that.

The other thing was making sure that this team stayed competitive, and I thought my staff…did a good job with that, as well.

Despite the Cavs' horrific season, Drew believes he has laid out a good long-term blueprint for the Wine and Gold. He can only hope the front office agrees with his assessment.

Many expected Cleveland to take a huge step backward in the 2018-19 NBA season. LeBron James and J.R. Smith's departures as well as Kevin Love's toe and foot injury took a massive toll on the Cavs.

Drew concludes his fifth season as an NBA head coach. He previously mentored the Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks. He has an overall record of 162 wins and 225 losses (.419).
