Basketball fans are still getting used to seeing Kyrie Irving donning Boston Celtics threads. At the same time, how he and the Cleveland Cavaliers parted ways over the summer are still very much talked about.
There isn’t a shortage of rumors surrounding the acrimonious separation between the two sides with most pointing to the relationship between Irving and LeBron James as the catalyst for the breakup.
The two have exchanged subtle jabs at each other on social media in the leadup to the blockbuster trade that sent Irving to Beantown, showing that the two stars’ bond with each other was already damaged.
Both Irving and James haven’t spoken about it, instead choosing to be diplomatic when speaking in front of reporters and cameras, which could be the best thing to do for the sake of their public images, but that also only fuels people from speculating more.
Perhaps in an attempt to keep people from consuming what he views as unfounded narratives in relation to his departure from the Cavs, Irving wore a cap that read “Popularity contests are not truth contests” in the postgame presser following the Celtics’ 92-84 preseason game win over the Charlotte Hornets on Monday.
Of course, that might as well have nothing to do about all that we said earlier (another speculation). That being said, Kyrie Irving isn’t doing his campaign for truth any favors if he’s dropping vague clues about what’s really on his mind.
Speaking of truth, may we remind Mr. Irving that the Earth is not flat.
