Jayson Tatum just torched the Washington Wizards for 50 points. The Boston Celtics star endlessly lit up the scoreboard on Tuesday night to lock up the 7th seed for his squad.

The performance was obviously special, doing it against his St. Louis mentor and pseudo big brother in Wizards star Bradley Beal. But with with the Celtics' spot in the playoffs secure, Tatum gets his shot to keep pace with Los Angeles Lakers Kobe Bryant for the fastest scoring pace in NBA playoff history, as reported by Celtics writer Dan Kelley.

Currently 22 years of age, Jayson Tatum has played a ton of playoff basketball already in just his 4th season in the NBA. The 2-time All-Star has figured in eight total playoff series so far, spanning 45 career playoff games. In those contests, he's tallied 925 points, good for a 20.6 points per game scoring average.

The fact that the Celtics star has made the playoffs in every season of his career so far is impressive. But he doesn't hold a candle to Kobe Bryant just yet, who made it to the dance in his first eight seasons, took a one-year hiatus, then made six more appearances throughout his legendary career. The Lakers icon played 15 playoff series, with 66 games total by the end of his age-22 season. He tallied a whopping 1264 points in those contests, scoring 19.2 points per game.

Current Laker LeBron James is actually the NBA playoffs' all-time leading scorer, but he took a different path to get there. The former Cleveland Cavaliers star missed the playoffs during his first two years, then went on to make 13 straight playoff appearances and 10 total trips to the NBA Finals. Better late than never?

What's unfortunate is that Tatum's 50 piece won't be counting towards his playoff total just yet. The play-in tournament isn't considered as an official playoff game. But what it does do is secure at least four more appearance for Tatum, as the Celtics are set to face the Brooklyn Nets. JT's going to have to move mountains to pass Kobe for the all-time playoff scoring pace, but it's definitely going to be fun to watch him try.
