Boston Celtics All-Star Kemba Walker became a fan favorite in the city of Charlotte, as he spent the first eight seasons of his career there. And though he's no longer with the Hornets, he tries to watch as many of their games as he can.
“It’s exciting to see their growth,” Walker said via ESPN's Tim Bontemps. “Especially Devonte’ (Graham). He stole a couple of my moves. …I know how hard those guys work.”
Kyrie Irving decided to leave the Celtics this summer in favor of his hometown team, the Brooklyn Nets. This opened the door for Walker, who eventually signed a reported four-year, max deal with Boston. The Hornets were interested in keeping Walker, but their offer was not up to par, according to reports.
Walker is playing well for the Celtics. In his six appearances thus far, the former UCONN Husky has racked up averages of 26.0 points on 40.4 percent shooting from the field (42.6 percent from beyond the arc), 5.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.0 steal in 34.7 minutes per outing.
Interestingly, the Celtics are scheduled to face the Hornets on Thursday night, marking Kemba's first game against his former squad.
“I get to see my mom,” Walker told ESPN, referring to his return trip to Charlotte. “That's the only thing I'm thinking about. Getting to see my family is what I'm looking forward to.”
Tip-off inside the Spectrum Center is set for 8:00 p.m. ET, with TNT having live broadcast coverage.
