Kevin Garnett is about to receive one of the biggest honors of his decorated career when the Boston Celtics retire his jersey on Sunday. As it turns out, the Celtics are also looking to use this opportunity to end the decade-long beef between KG and former teammate Ray Allen.

According to Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe, the Celtics have extended an invitation for Allen to attend Garnett's jersey retirement ceremony this coming Sunday:

This is potentially a major step towards these two icons finally burying the hatchet. Ray Allen attending the ceremony honoring KG will pretty much indicate how he's put this whole episode behind him. For his part, I'm sure that Garnett will appreciate this gesture from Allen and this could finally be the moment these two end up hugging it out.

It's an altogether different conversation if Allen snubs the invite, though. In fact, this might add further distance between these two Hall of Famers. Allen and Garnett have been taking baby steps towards an eventual reconciliation over the past year, but nothing has really materialized. Allen purposefully opting not to attend KG's jersey retirement ceremony — despite receiving an invite — could set them back yet again.

I can't wait for Sunday.
