Chael Sonnen apparently has some sources within the UFC. The former title challenger claims he knows who is next for Nick Diaz.
Chael Sonnen claims the UFC is looking at a possible matchup with Kevin Holland. The bout would be an interesting one as Holland fights at 185 but recently announced he was moving to 170. Nick Diaz normally fights at 170 but had his last fight move to 185 at the last minute.
“Tommy from the Bronx just reached out to me,” the former UFC fighter said. “Told me something. I said, ‘Is this public?’ And he said you can share it. It had something to do with Nick Diaz vs. Kevin Holland. A little bit surprised by it, only because Nick Diaz is such a megastar. But what do you do with him? Nick Diaz, at all times, is one win away from being in a main event. He was last time when he fought Robbie Lawler… Kevin is gonna change weight classes down to 170 pounds, so we’ve been told. Nick’s still under contract and he wants to do something and everyone wants to see him do it. So you start matching him up very cleverly… I get it. I’m in.”
The UFC fight would be great from an entertainment perspective as Kevin Holland loves to talk. Nick Diaz used to be known for his talking in his early UFC days but he didn't quite do that heading into the Robbie Lawler fight.
It will be interesting to see if the UFC chooses to go in this direction and what weight class the fight will take place in. The matchup will receive a lot of backlash as many don't want Nick Diaz to fight again, UFC or otherwise.
