With Russian oligarch and owner of Chelsea Roman Abramovich looking to sell the club, the English Premier League side has gained some interest from some big names in the United States sports landscape.

The Ricketts family, who owns the Chicago Cubs, and New York Jets owner Woody Johnson are both interested in purchasing the club:

It is estimated that the club could cost anywhere between $2-4 billion. According to Forbes, Chelsea is valued at $3.2 billion.

The Ricketts have had interest in soccer clubs prior to Chelsea. They were interested in buying Italian club AC Milan back in 2018.

There currently are multiple NFL owners who own English Premier League teams. Los Angeles Rams owner Stan Kroenke owns Arsenal F.C., the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Glazer family owns Manchester United, and San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York has a minority stake in Leeds United. Also, former Premier League club Fulham F.C., which leads the Championship table and is primed for a promotion back into England's top league, is owned by Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan.

Johnson does have ties to England as he served as the United States ambassador to the United Kingdom from 2017-2021. Johnson and the Jets are coming off another disappointing season in 2021, going 4-13 and finishing at the bottom of the AFC East once again.

Chelsea is currently third in the English Premier League with 53 points so far this season. The club also recently won the FIFA Club World Cup and is coming off a Champions League-winning season in 2020-21.

Chelsea's next match is on Thursday as they face Norwich City.
