The Kansas City Chiefs have now officially ruled out running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire for their upcoming Week 18 clash with the Denver Broncos.

Edwards-Helaire missed the Chiefs’ Week 17 road contest against the Cincinnati Bengals due to a shoulder injury suffered in the week prior during the home win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Although there was a significant concern as to whether Edwards-Helaire would be placed on season-ending injured reserve, the team was provided with positive news a day following the win against the Steelers, as X-rays revealed no structural damage with his injury.

Still, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid opted to not feature Edwards-Helaire against the Bengals. In his place, Darrel Williams and Derrick Gore each stepped up for Kansas City, as they combined for 125 rushing yards in the game.

Reid did provide some early optimism as to Edwards-Helaire's possible availability against the Broncos, as he noted on Tuesday that the versatile running back could take part in the game. Still, the Chiefs have now once again opted for the more conservative route at this late stage in the regular season by officially ruling him as out.

As was the case last week, Williams and Gore are expected to lead the Chiefs rush offense in Week 18. It remains to be seen whether running back Jerick McKinnon could have a feature role in the game. He made his return to action last week following a stint on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury, although he logged a mere four snaps on offense in the contest.

The Chiefs will look to make it 13 straight wins over the Broncos this week.
