The Super Bowl LIV champion Kansas City Chiefs also made some moves of their own ahead of the September 5 deadline for the team's final 53-man roster. The team has recently released ball-carrier DeAndre Washington from its training camp pool.

ESPN NFL insider Field Yates reported the developments on Twitter:

Prior to his arrival in the Chiefs' camp, Washington was a five-year veteran who primarily played for the then-Oakland Raiders. He served a backup role at the running back position throughout his stay with the team. The former Texas Tech standout accounted for a total of 387 rushing yards on 108 attempts and scored three rushing touchdowns in 16 games played last season.

He eventually joined college teammate Patrick Mahomes on the Chiefs training camp but the team's loaded offense didn't have any spot for him. His departure leaves undrafted third-year player Darrel Williams and sophomore Darwin Thompson in the depth chart behind presumptive starter Clyde Edwards-Helaire. The rookie is potentially going to be the team's RB1 after last season's starting rusher in Damien Williams chose to opt-out of playing due to concerns for the coronavirus pandemic.

The Chiefs are aiming to select the best players in training camp who will join their bid for a Super Bowl repeat in the upcoming season. Their title defense will be no easy task as the rest of the league has reloaded their arsenal during the offseason.

The Chiefs will hope to successfully pull through with their 2020 campaign despite the odd circumstances that the season will entail.
