The Kansas City Chiefs have been a rumored landing spot for Cardinals star cornerback Patrick Peterson, should he be traded, for some time now. On Thursday, CBS Sports again brought the topic up by naming the Chiefs as a sensible trade destination for the Pro Bowl cornerback.

In a piece discussing NFL trade ideas that make sense now, after the draft, CBS Sports writer John Breech included Peterson to the Chiefs as one of seven ideas to get mentioned. Breech says Peterson would be a good fit for a Chiefs defense still in need of playmakers after last season's shortcomings.

“Although Peterson could get dealt anywhere, we're sending him to the Chiefs and that's because Kansas City has been doing everything possible to beef up a defensive unit that couldn't stop anyone while ranking 31st overall in the NFL last season. After watching his defense choke away the AFC title game, Andy Reid is clearly trying to make sure that doesn't happen again. Not only have the Chiefs already traded for Frank Clark and Emmanuel Ogbah, but they've also signed Tyrann Mathieu, Alex Okafor and Damien Wilson. If the Chiefs were to add Peterson to the mix, the defense would be nearly as scary as their offense.”

Breech's proposed price tag would be Kansas City's 2020 first-round pick. The franchise isn't shy about trading away draft capital, since they haven't had a first-rounder since 2017. Perhaps they'd be willing to do son again for Peterson, who would be the type of elite corner the Chiefs would need.
