Kansas City Chiefs star running back Kareem Hunt took the league by storm in his rookie campaign this past season where he finished as the leading rusher that garnered him the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award.

In his first official offseason in the league, Hunt has honed in on improving his ability to be a more versatile option in the passing game in his second year, according to Matt McMullen of Chiefs.com.

In his first season, Hunt certainly showed that he is more than a reliable option out of the backfield recording 53 receptions for 455 receiving yards. He finished as one of the highly used running backs in the passing game behind his explosive big-play ability after the catch that has put on display his unique speed.

It was a huge part of what was a record-breaking campaign where he set franchise marks with 1,327 rushing yards and 1,782 total scrimmage yards. He had also become the only rookie in NFL history with 100 or more scrimmage yards in each of his first seven games of a season and is the only rookie to have two games with at least 200 scrimmage yards, a rushing touchdown,  and a receiving touchdown. He was also the first player to have at least three rushing touchdowns and two receiving touchdowns in their first two career games.

With Hunt working on to become a more well-around asset in the passing game, it could see him build off his impressive rookie season as the Chiefs will likely continue to feature him heavily in their offensive game plan. This could be a point of emphasis as second-year quarterback Patrick Mahomes gets acclimated to being the starter for the franchise next season and possibly beyond that.
