Just about everyone considers Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes to be the best player in the world right now, which doesn't really line up with his current salary.

Mahomes, who is still on his rookie deal, is slated to make just $735,000 in base salary next season, which has everyone wondering what his new deal will look like.

But instead of worrying about tipping the scales with a record-breaking contract, Mahomes is more concerned about helping the Chiefs win over the long haul:

“When you look back on your career at the end of your career, you want to look back and see a lot of success, a lot of wins, a lot of Super Bowl wins hopefully — it’s something where I want to look back and see a lot of success,” Mahomes told Terez Paylor of Yahoo Sports. “Obviously I want to get a contract, obviously I want to provide for my family for a long time and do everything like that. But I want to make sure I do it the smart way and do it the right way, and so I don’t know exactly which way that is, yet. I know that my people and the Chiefs’ people will talk about it, and will do it at the right time and for the betterment for the team.”

So basically, Mahomes wants to get paid, but he wants to make it so that Kansas City has enough money to continually build winning teams around him.

There are some who feel that Mahomes can end up being one of the best quarterbacks of all-time, so it's only right for the 24-year-old to be compensated like one.

However, if Mahomes wants to add more hardware to his legacy, he may have to take some pay cuts, Tom Brady-style.
