The Kansas City Chiefs suffered a bit of a scare in their Week 1 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Patrick Mahomes, the reigning NFL MVP, suffered an ankle injury. Any time a superstar gets hurt, everyone involved with the team begins holding their breath.

Thankfully, Mahomes seems to be just fine and took the time to provide an update on his ankle. Sam McDowell of The Kansas City Star shared the update.

Mahomes appears to be good to go and shouldn't miss any time with this injury. An ankle injury can be something to keep an eye on, as they can flare up and get injured again easily. Kansas City definitely dodged a bullet.

Following his MVP season a year ago, Mahomes started the 2019 season off extremely strong. He completed 25 of his 33 pass attempts for 378 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. Those numbers, should he keep them up for the entire season, easily could win him another MVP award.

Kansas City ended up defeating the Jaguars by a final score of 40-26. Jacksonville, on the other, actually did lose their starting quarterback, Nick Foles, to a broken collarbone. His return date is not known at this point in time, but he will miss a good amount of time.

If Mahomes can stay healthy and the Chiefs play up to their potential, they are going to be a serious contender. New England is still widely viewed as the favorite in the AFC, especially after signing Antonio Brown, but Mahomes and company aren't going to go down without a fight.
