Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu shared his excitement on Twitter after knowing that his running mate in Daniel Sorensen would be back with the squad next season. The former BYU talent reached a one-year agreement to continue to bolster the Chiefs' secondary defense in 2021.

Sorensen has been with the Chiefs since 2014 after being picked him up as an undrafted free agent. Through seven seasons with the squad, he has already racked up a total of 356 total tackles, 10 interceptions, and 3.5 sacks.

Sorensen has been sharing the responsibilities in the secondary with Mathieu since 2019. Mathieu is two-for-two in All-Pro nods since joining the Chiefs after a one-year stint with the Houston Texans. He spent the first five seasons of his career with the Arizona Cardinals.

In the offseason, the Chiefs will continue to prioritize retaining as much talent as possible on the defensive side of the roster after their lackluster showing in Super Bowl LV. Their defensive schemes got exposed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offense, which played a role in their failure to defend their Super Bowl crown.

Hopefully, Daniel Sorensen will get to contribute more and effectuate the game on a greater level after inking a fresh contract with the team. Overall, the duo's extended stay with the Chiefs will certainly help their cause as they aim to get back to being strong contenders next season. Kansas City is viewed as a top championship favorite once again.
