Chocobo GP, a spiritual successor to Square Enix's Chocobo Racing games from way back in the '90s, is an upcoming Nintendo Switch exclusive with a 2022 release date window. The game was unveiled at the most recent Nintendo Direct with a brand new trailer which you may also view below.

Chocobo GP Release Date: March 10, 2022

Chocobo GP comes out on March 10, 2022, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.

The official Nintendo Switch page for the game details it with the following:

“Start your engines and get set for a new racing experience, featuring a roster of dozens of your favorite Chocobo characters, complete with their own unique abilities and variants. Equip Magicites and take out the competition as you drift through various familiar courses in online and offline multiplayer modes. Compete in tournaments and become the reigning champion of GP!”

Chocobo GP, like the previous Chocobo Racing games that have come before, play like how you'd expect from a standard Kart game, but with its own Final Fantasy-themed twist. You can play as some of the series' iconic characters and monsters, like the titular Chocobo, the Behemoth, recurring characters like Gilgamesh, fan-favorites like Final Fantasy IX's Vivi, and even staple summons like Ramuh.

In the trailer, we can also see different magic spells that are available to try and cripple your opponents' chances of winning – Magicites will be obtainable on the racetrack, and getting multiples of the same kind will upgrade your spells into their stronger versions, such as Fire becoming Fira and then Firaga.

Additionally, several iconic Final Fantasy locations also serve as settings for the race tracks, such as Final Fantasy VII's Gold Saucer and Final Fantasy IX's Alexandria. There will also be several different cosmetic and performance customizations that can be applied to each racer.

As expected from any racing or kart game, Chocobo GP will also feature local and online multiplayer options, with a mode that even supports up to 64 players in an 8×8 elimination tournament bracket format.
