The Los Angeles Clippers are making room for some possible player movement ahead of the 2021 NBA Trade Deadline this Thursday. Per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Clips dealt seldom-used center Mfiondu Kabengele to the Sacramento Kings, along with a future second and cash in exchange for a protected future second-round pick.

The Clippers, who are once again strong contenders this season with a 27-16 start, are expected to add more talent to gear up for their playoff run. There are plenty of big names available on the market right now, as LA will look to snag an impact player through trade or the buyout market.

The Tyronn Lue-mentored team is expected to aggressively hunt for a starting-caliber point guard or another serviceable center to complement their superstar tandem of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. The Clippers are stacked on every position, except for the two aforementioned slots where they need the most help.

LA's blockbuster acquisition of the two perennial All-Stars last season left the team with limited cap room and future assets to bargain with. While the $2.6 million they freed up doesn't seem as substantial, it will definitely play a major factor, particularly in the buyout market. Big-time players like Andre Drummond and Kyle Lowry, whom the Clips cannot afford to trade for, might get bought out in the coming days. If that's the case, a strong contender like the Clippers could be their preferred destination of choice, depending on the amount of money they can offer.

That extra cap will also come in handy for any possible trades. While it's still up in the air if the Clippers could actually make a splash before the deadline, at least they are putting themselves in a good position to do so.
