The LA Clippers tore an aging, stale roster apart in the summer of 2017, and two years later have at least as good a chance as any season during the Lob City era to win a championship. Jerry West isn't solely responsible for the Clippers' rapidly successful rebuild; neither is Steve Ballmer, Doc Rivers, Lawrence Frank, or even Kawhi Leonard. LA's rise to the top of the league's preseason hierarchy was truly a team effort.

But it's no coincidence that its league-changing about-face came shortly after West joined the front office as an advisor in June 2017. Now, the Clippers have informally brought in his son. According to Andrew Greif of the Los Angeles Times, Ryan West will assist the team this season as a college and NBA scout.

“Former Lakers executive Ryan West will also help the Clippers this season. Though not a full-fledged addition to the front office, West has been contracted by the team to scout prospects at the NBA and college levels, said a person with knowledge of the role.”

West spent the previous 10 years with LA's cross-arena rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers. He reportedly parted ways with the purple and gold in late June. First hired as a scout in 2009, West ultiamtely worked his way to up to director of player personnel with the Lakers, and is largely credited with helping unearth draft gems like Kyle Kuzma and Ivica Zubac.

ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reported that West's separation from Los Angeles was mutually agreed upon, after both sides came to the conclusion he'd reached his ceiling in the front offfice.
