Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic is truly one of the toughest covers in the league today. Most opposing teams often put their best wing defender on the two-time All-Star, or even resort to double teams in a bid to slow him down. Los Angeles Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue, however, found an unlikely way to defend the Mavs' best player by having Ivica Zubac on the floor to match Doncic's heavy minutes.

Ahead of the Clippers' rematch against the Mavs at American Airlines Center on Wednesday, Lue admitted that he will employ the same tactic, per Callie Caplan of Dallas Morning News.

The Clippers bested the Mavs on Monday, 109-99. Ivica Zubac, who starts for LA at center but only norms 20 minutes a night this season, logged in a season-high 35 minutes against Dallas. Luka Doncic did produce terrific numbers of 25 points, 16 dimes, 10 rebounds and two steals in 38 minutes, but Zu did make him work for his points the entire game.

While Doncic is used to bullying smaller guards on his way to the paint, Lue and the Clippers intentionally had Zubac switching on the Mavs star on several possessions. Doncic struggled shooting from the field, going just 9-for-23 since Zubac blanketed him every chance he could whenever he got inside the shaded lane.

The Croatian slotman even held his own and made the most of his extended playing time, dropping a solid double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds while making seven of his eight field-goal attempts. Doncic and the Mavs, meanwhile, will probably come in more prepared this time around against Lue's unorthodox tactics.
