Los Angeles Clippers guard Landry Shamet was one of the people who were surprised when the team acquired Kawhi Leonard and Paul George in free agency. In fact, he thought that he was traded when he received a ton of messages on his phone following the team's massive offseason.

The Clippers never needed to trade for Kawhi, as he was a free agent. However, they gave up a lot of assets to acquire George, including young guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and veteran forward Danilo Gallinari. Shamet, who showed flashes of being a reliable shooter during LA's brief playoff run, will have the opportunity to prove that he deserves to play for a championship team.

Last season, Shamet averaged 10.9 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists. He also shot the ball well from beyond the arc, hitting 45 percent of his 3-pointers. With the Clippers' acquisition of Leonard and George, it is expected that most of the guys on the team will get a lot of open looks, so it is important for the second-year guard to keep working on the consistency of his game, as he's expected to play a key role in the team's championship run.

It is unclear if Shamet will still average close to 28 minutes per game for the Clippers, but he will definitely be good enough to make the opening night roster. Although his role with this new-look team is still undefined at this point, he should have no problems embracing whatever is given to him.

Shamet understands that it's winning time for the Clippers, and he'll do everything he can to contribute to their success.
